- Marangu Route
DURATION OF CLIMB: 5 – 6 DAYS
The Marangu route is the most popular route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. This is because it is possible to complete the ascent and descent in 5 days which makes it the least expensive route compared to the Machame route and other routes such as Lemosho which are a usually a minimum of 6 days on the mountain. This shorter 5 day climb is not always the best way though due to a shorter acclimatisation period.
The Marangu route does however offer you the option of spending an extra acclimatisation day on the mountain and Experience East Africa Marangu route climbs always take this option where possible to increase the chances of success. This extends the route into a 6-day trek, greatly increasing your chances of success. Another reason for the increased popularity of the Marangu route is the sleeping accommodation. While the more scenic Machame route climbers snuggle up in tents, the Marangu route has shared A-Hut accommodation at each camp. It offers the relative luxury of being able to sleep with more protection from the elements. Mineral water, soft drinks, chocolates and beers are also sold at all the camps on this route. All your equipment and supplies are portered and a cook prepares all your meals.
The main itinerary difference between the Marangu 5 day and 6 day routes is the additional acclimatization day at Horombo Hut…
