  • The need in Africa is endless and at Experience East Africa we’ve made Orphanage work a top priority. Even Arusha, our HQ in East Africa, despite being a fairly modern city in Tanzania, has thousands of children living in orphanages.

With no welfare system save the help people receive from their church community, many people are unable to feed themselves let alone a family. Sadly, because of this many who have children often leave them to fend for themselves when things get especially tough. For many other Orphans sickness and disease has taken their parents and left them homeless before they are old enough to sustain themselves. Because of this, the orphanages and the amazing people and churches that run them are literally saving the lives of thousands.

With such unprecedented need, each of our Orphanages & Missions trips are committed to making a difference at the orphanages we visit. We try to ensure half of the luggage allowance of every person on each trip is filled with clothes, toys, medical items, school equipment and other useful materials to ensure each trip has over a 100KG of things to give away.

As well as giving what we can on each trip, we also take an active role in ensuring long-lasting help that endures beyond each trip. These can be a variety of things, but two of the main ones are as follows…

    Goats:

Giving orphanages a male and female goat provides the orphanage with up to six pints of milk per day, giving the children much needed protein on an ongoing basis – something they are often deprived of. There is also a chance the goats will reproduce and the group’s gift often provides the start point for a small business selling excess milk!

    Mosquito Nets:

Malaria kills more children in Africa than any other disease and providing orphanages with mosquito nets for their children, protects them from mosquitoes when they are most active during the night.

“We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”

    Winston Churchill
